Tha Doggfather was Snoop Dogg's follow up to his debut album Doggystyle, released by Death Row Records in 1996.
Although the album debuted at number one in the week of November 12, 1996 with over 478,971 copies sold, it failed to match the commercial success of Doggystyle. Still worth to note that it was released only one week after another Death Row release, the first posthumous album by slain Tupac Shakur, the The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, which also debuted at number one. Tupac Shakur wasn't a part of the album due to Snoop Dogg praising The Notorious B.I.G.'s music in the media, thus causing friction between Snoop & Shakur.
The album was re-released July 11, 2005.

According to SoundScan, over 8 million copies have been sold[citation needed] with 800,000 copies in the UK alone by the end of 1996.[citation needed]
