South Caucasian peoples

South Caucasian peoples is a general term for the ethnic groups and subgroups that historically spoke the South Caucasian languages, namely:

The broad Georgian national ethnic group (with 4,600,000 people in Georgia) comprises Georgians proper, the Mingrelians and Svans (who live in northwest Georgia, in the regions of Samegrelo and Svaneti, respectively), and a few thousand Laz, the Ajarians (that live in Ajaria, southwest Georgia).

Most Laz live along the northeast Black Sea coast of Turkey and are Turkish nationals.
