The R-Gun is a fictional robot in the Super Robot Wars series. Its upgrade is the R-Gun Powered. Both units have appeared as playable units in the Super Robot Wars Alpha series and the Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation series.

The R-Gun is a humanoid machine with a very sleek design. It is colored in a shade of dark purple. Various linings and decoration of white and orange are apparent on various places on the body. The head of the unit uses a visor. The R-Gun Powered is slightly modified and now carries two large launchers on each shoulder.
The RW-1 R-Gun was developed as a modular weapon for the SRX. During the testing stages, it was referred to as Argun (in Super Robot Wars Original Generations, it would be codenamed the Real Personal Trooper Type-Gun). The R-Gun seems like a normal machine, but can transform into its Metal Destroyer (Metal Genocider in the original Japanese version) Mode, resembling a large, handheld gun which the SRX can use in combat (in Original Generations, its appearance resembles more of a cannon than a gun that can fit with the SRX's hand). The R-Gun was given a Personal Trooper mode so it could fight independently and not stay in its gun form all the time. Since it uses a T-Link System, the pilot needs to be a Psychodriver to bring out the most of the mech (in Original Generation 2, Viletta Vadim is not a Psychodriver, but can still pilot the mech, minus the T-Link Boomerang attack). The engine is a powerful Tronium Engine, though this is usually suppressed until the R-Gun is used by the SRX, due to the inherent dangers of the highly unstable Tronium.
In the Alpha series, the R-Gun would be piloted by Major Ingram Prisken, commander of the SRX Team. Later on, it would be piloted by Viletta Vadim and be upgraded to the RW-1P R-Gun Powered (alternatively, the player could recruit Levi Tolar and have her pilot it). In the Original Generation games, the R-Gun was primarily piloted by Viletta for the duration of the Divine Crusaders War. Ingram would take the R-Gun with him, during the L5 Campaign and turn it into the AGX-13 R-Gun Rivale, by exposing it to Zfylud Crystals. As the R-Gun Rivale, its armor takes on a violet crystalline appearance, and it loses its ability to transform into the Metal Genocider Mode. It does, however, gain incredibly powerful internal weapons to compensate for the loss of the transformation ability. The R-Gun Rivale would be destroyed by the SRX, and the original R-Gun rebuilt in Original Generation 2, rolling out for use as the R-Gun Powered, and used specifically for Mai Kobayashi.

The R-Gun first appeared in the Banpresto role-playing game, Super Hero Sakusen (Super Hero Operations), along with other Banpresto Original characters that were slated to appear in Super Robot Wars Alpha. Such characters include Ingram Plisken and Viletta Vadim, who are the male and female counterparts of each other (they originally shared the same surname in this game, before Viletta's was changed to Vadim in Alpha, wherein they are established as rather two separate identities), from which the player can choose the main character to play as. Aside from Ingram and Viletta, the eight characters that were to compose the new set of eight lead protagonists in Super Robot Wars Alpha, takes part in Super Hero Sakusen as non-playable characters (NPCs) that provide Ingram/Viletta and company access to item shops, health recovery facilities, and save functions. Euzeth Gozzo of Balmar appears in this game, so it may as well have been his first. The rest of the SRX Team, which the R-Gun is associated with, is present and playable in Super Hero Sakusen.
In this game, the R-Gun was built by Howard from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. The R-Gun Powered's ability to transform into a gunlike weapon for the SRX was first featured here as well.
