O Ye Jigs & Juleps!

O Ye Jigs & Juleps! is a book by Virginia Cary Hudson. It claims to be a series of essays written by a 10 year old girl in 1904 who went to an Episcopalian school. The essays concern religion to a considerable extent, but the book is largely known for its humor. These essays were not published until 1962 and were "discovered" years after the fact. This reported origin was deemed suspicious by some reviewers.^[1]

The essays in the book discuss things like gardening, libraries, neighborhood kids, and even China. A large portion of it involved Episcopalian background of the girl and her youthful observations of religion. This has made it of interest to Christian readers in general and Episcopalian/Anglicanism readers in particular. In 1962 it made the "Anglican Book Club Prior Selections."^[2] The other books selected that year were An Anglican View of the 2nd Vatican Council, Scripture and the Faith, The Hundredth Archbishop of Canterbury, and These Forty Days.
