Narsaq

Narsaq is a town in southern Greenland. The town itself has a population of approximately 1,700, but several more hundred people live in the surrounding community.

It is believed that people have lived in the area for thousands of years, but not continuously. The name Narsaq is Greenlandic for "plain", referring to the beautiful plain the town lies on. The sea around Narsaq is full of marine life, including whales, salmon, and seals.

The town did not really start to grow until 1953, when it had its first fishing factory built. By 1959 the town's population exceeded 600. Today Narsaq has a town hall, two supermarkets, a church, a police station, a firestation, a primary school, several educational facilities, an internet café, a hospital, and several small shops.
