Drug policy of the United States

The drug policy of the United States is an issue largely rooted in the war on drugs, begun in June 1971 by President Richard Nixon and continued by every one of his successors.^[1] It was escalated under President Ronald Reagan, who used the full power of the Drug Enforcement Agency in an attempt to decrease the use of illicit drugs, from marijuana to crack cocaine.^[2]^[3]
