Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac, Makaveli, or simply as 'Pac, was an American artist renowned for his rap music, movie roles, poetry, and his social activism. He is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best selling hip-hop artist, with over 80 million of his albums sold worldwide [1] including over 50 million sales in the United States alone. Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up around violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society, and sometimes his feuds with fellow rappers. Shakur's work is known for advocating political, economic, social, and racial equality as well as his raw descriptions of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and conflicts with the law. Many fans, critics, and industry insiders rank him as the greatest rapper ever.[2][3]
There has been speculation that Amaru Entertainment has not released Tupac's music in its original form. This has lead many fans to turn away from the music released by the label, stating that it was not released the way Tupac had intended it to be released when the music was recorded. Albums such as Loyal to the Game and Pac's Life are examples of those that have been rejected by fans.
One action taken by the label, which fans disagree with, is the use of contemporary featured artists in the place of those featured on the original recordings. Fans have complained that the artists featured on the new remixes do not have the same style as Shakur did, and thus affect the natural feel of a 2Pac album. Another complaint is that the beats used on the remixes are very unlike those Shakur typically featured on his songs.
