Greenland consists of three counties (amt): Kitaa/Vestgrønland (West Greenland), Tunu/Østgrønland (East Greenland) and Avannaa/Nordgrønland (North Greenland). Kitaa has 15 municipalities; Tunu has 2 and Avannaa has 1. The large Northeast Greenland National Park is in both East Greenland and North Greenland, but not part of any municipality (unincorporated). Also, Thule Air Base (Pituffik), located as an enclave within Qaanaaq municipality, is an unincorporated area and does not belong to Qaanaaq or any other municipality.
